The CGB Rugby Club has been running for over two years now, and again it is one of the most popular extra-curricular clubs on offer to the students. In order to boost enthusiasm and for the players to experience real match situations, we will be taking the team on a rugby tour to Medellin.
Going on sports trips is part and parcel of any sport, and it is deeply rooted in rugby culture the world over. It bonds teams, fosters team spirit and is a rewarding and life enriching experience for any person. We are also trying to promote rugby in Colombia, and by attending this rugby festival for children in Medellin, we will be making history by being the first Bogotá school team to travel to a rugby tournament in Medellin! In fact, we are also proud to note that we were the first ever school rugby team in the country!
The security and well-being of your children will be the number one concern of the school. Both Mr Horsley and I will be going, and all interested parents are welcome to come on "tour" with us.
The rugby festival, Primer Festival Nacional de Rugby Infantil, will be on Saturday 4th December, and therefore we will be flying to Medellin on Friday night, the 3rd December and returning to Bogotá on Sunday evening, 5th December.
There will be 7 teams in our division (10 - 13 Year olds), two of which are from CGB. There will be also 4 teams in the 14 - 17 year old age group.
The tournament will take at Copacabana, and we will be staying at the Sheraton Hotel. Our cohort comprises of 19 players, 11 cheerleaders, 11 parents and 3 teachers.
I am also pleased to inform you that we have a brand new rugby uniform.....jersey, shorts, socks, tracksuit pants and polo shirt, which were paid for by our fundraising events.
Mr Reeves
The school wishes the team all the best. It will definitely be an excellent once in a life time experience for everyone!
