My experience building houses last Saturday was something that I can say I’ve never experienced nor done before.
Not only did I enjoy actually getting my hands dirty and contributing to the actual construction, but I was able to actually experience a new side of Bogota. Being able to actually connect and experience these challenges with the locals made us realize how much we’ve still got to learn about Colombia.
From my point of view, the experience was completely satisfactory, we (the students) actually got to do most of the work, resulting in us feeling very proud of ourselves when the house was finished. The food provided by the locals was more than enough and it gave us a chance to truly connect with the family. The team that accompanied us (Fundación Carolina Muñoz) was made up of very friendly and trustworthy volunteers, who were also always eager to help out when needed, the fact that most of them were also young and University students- allowed us to have a closer friendship, which made the experience even more enjoyable and fun.
